MASK FITTING MATTERS

A setup built around your face, sleep habits and prescribed therapy.

A comfortable seal should not depend on over-tightening. Mask style and size can affect comfort, movement and the way therapy fits into your bedtime routine.

  • Review mask style and sizing
  • Practice putting the mask on and taking it off
  • Understand basic cleaning and replacement
  • Know who to call when comfort problems continue

PRACTICAL EDUCATION

Leave the setup knowing what happens next.

A&R's setup process focuses on the practical details patients and caregivers need for the first night and the first weeks of therapy.

COMMON QUESTIONS

New CPAP and BiPAP setup FAQs

These general answers help you prepare for a conversation with A&R. Your clinician's order and insurance requirements determine the final setup path.

Do I need a prescription for a new CPAP or bilevel PAP setup?

Yes. PAP equipment requires a valid prescription or qualifying order from your healthcare provider. Insurance plans may also require a sleep study and supporting clinical documentation. A&R will explain what is needed for your specific order path.

What is the difference between CPAP and bilevel PAP?

CPAP provides one prescribed pressure level, while bilevel PAP provides different prescribed pressures for inhaling and exhaling. Your treating clinician determines the appropriate device and settings. A&R does not change therapy type or pressure settings without an authorized order.

Will A&R help me choose and fit a mask?

A&R helps new-setup patients understand available mask styles and fit considerations. Options can include nasal pillows, nasal masks and full-face masks. Final selection depends on the order, compatibility, facial fit, comfort and availability.

Does insurance cover CPAP or BiPAP equipment?

A&R works with Medicare, New Mexico Medicaid and many commercial plans. Coverage depends on eligibility, documentation, plan rules, medical necessity and the prescribed equipment. Acceptance of a plan does not guarantee payment.

How long does a new setup take?

Timing varies based on receipt of the prescription and documentation, insurance authorization when required, device availability and appointment scheduling. Contact A&R early so the team can identify missing steps.

Can my provider send an order directly to A&R?

Yes. Providers and discharge teams can contact A&R for the appropriate secure referral pathway, current order requirements and service-area confirmation. Do not upload clinical documents through the public callback form.

Is this page for urgent breathing problems or emergencies?

No. This page and form are not monitored for emergencies. Call 911 for a medical emergency. Existing A&R patients with an urgent equipment issue should call their branch or the after-hours number provided with their equipment.
